7/13/07 - Building materials on fire at Carroll Manor Elementary school
At about 5:30 pm Lt. Smallwood alerted Frederick to a fire
behind Carroll Manor Elementary school. Two engine companies were requested
to extinguish what appeared to be stacks of roofing materials.
Brush 145 and Engine Tanker 143 arrived and started the attack while engine
tanker 284 established a water supply. The fire had spread to two large
stacks of ceiling tiles and was threatening a third stack. Engine 201
from Jefferson and 503 from Ft. Detrick were called in to assist as well as
Air/Light 4 from Citizens Truck Co.. The Butler family assisted the overhaul
efforts with a tractor, greatly speeding up the process.
The Carroll Manor family would like to thank everyone who assisted with this
fire and especially the Butler family for the use of their tractor. They saved
hours of hard work by breaking the pile up with the tractor. We'd also like
to thank local resident Tadd Dawson for sending in his pictures of the fire
and allowing us to post them here.
